Recomended Golf Reading
by DonGaumer

The Greatest Game Ever Played may just be the greatest golf book ever written. Mark Frost takes the story or the 1913 U.S. Open Championship and electrifies it with superb writing, and it results in page-turner that can't be put down.
The year is 1913, and Harry Vardon is the best player on the planet, with Ted Ray following closely behind. Both British golfers traveled to Boston to compete in the U.S. Open, held that year at the historic Brookline Country Club.
The professionals and the rest of the golfing world had no idea that a former caddie who lives adjacent to the course will take the tournament and the golf world by storm. Francis Quimet's story is quite possibly as important as Bobby Jones' in bringing golf to its current level of prominence.
This book is a wonderful journey through golf in the early 20 th Century, but it is also provides a great look into the world of professionals and amateurs of the time. Quimet's 10-year-old caddie Eddy Lowery is a marvelous story unto himself.
This book is a must read for all those interested in golf, and readers of all ages will enjoy the sense of human accomplishment in the face of seemingly insurmountable hurdles.
